Further the dog bitten by an adder today in Firestone Copse:

(incidentally this is a picture from the New Forest not Firestone!)


"Most snake bites tend to occur between March and October when the snakes are more active due to the warm weather."

Its hardly been warm, but the sun has been.

To update you on the dog that was bitten we have heard that she is home and very swollen still but vets are happy with her, so that sounds like good news.


Please bear in mind that if you should see an adder just leave it well alone as they are a protected species.

Here's a photo of an adder that wightdogs member Derek took at Culver Down last week.

They are out there and they will be basking in this strong sunshine so please be aware and cautious. If your dog should get bitten by an adder get to the vets as soon as possible - emergency style - and they should be OK.


Remember please that adders should not be harmed, just leave them be, and keep inquisitive pooches well away from them.
