The weather during the last few weeks has been absolutely glorious but I can honestly say that I have never seen as much rubbish on the islands beaches, neither have I seen rubbish just left there day after day. Bottles, cans and every conceivable type of litter strewn all over the place and just ignored. What message is this sending out to visitors to the Island? Those same visitors that are being deprived of toilet facilities and Tourist Information Centres, which the council have seen fit to close! And this is without mentioning the overflowing bins neglected for half of the day, if not just abandoned and left to the following day. If you were a visitor would you be in a hurry to return here after witnessing what the Island is becoming?
The pictures above certainly are in no way overstating the problem because it isn't easy to photograph rubbish on a beach, as litter is small and beaches are very large but [click here] for a picture I took of Ryde Harbour Beach yesterday morning and this is typical of what I have been confronted with recently. | |
