I am just mad about dogs, but had a very sad experience recently with a dog we rescued, (a lovely sprollie called Triple) we adopted her (her paw had been chopped of by her owners ex husband) she was the most beautiful gentle ll month old puppy, sadly we had to have the vet out a number of times, and on x-raying her discovered that she had a hole in her heart and it was enlarged, she was treated for heart failure.  After only having her for 4 and a half weeks, she was restless one night, i put the light on only to discover she had given birth, 4 hours later at 5 in the morning she had given birth to eight puppies in total.  vet called in the morning with puppy formula milk, cos being poorly and all the pills she was on wasnt producing much milk.

Sadly after only a 2 and a half days with her puppies she wasnt very well again, called the vet, and he said it would be only fair to have her put to sleep. The vet didnt even know she was pregnant, said her big tummy was due to water retention caused by her heart failure.Even the rescue centre (on the mainland) and their vet missed this too.

She fought hard to look after her puppies, but her heart could take no more.  RIP Triple.

We have our crazy collie called Cassie though.
